Walt Disney World
Magic Kingdom
Orlando, Florida

After opening Disneyland in 1955, Walt Disney decided to build a second park.  Since he was disappointed with the way the area surrounding Disneyland developed, he vowed not to make the same mistake again. Before his death in 1966, Walt Disney secretly purchased 28,000 acres of undeveloped land in central Florida in order to give him the location of his dream park.  The Magic Kingdom, the first of four major parks at Disney World, opened in 1971.
