Shanghai Disneyland

Pudong, Shanghai, China

The Shanghai Disney Resort opened in June 2016. It is the sixth and most recently opened Disney resort. The Walt Disney Company owns 43 percent of the resort, while the Shanghai Shendi Group owns the rest. The theme park covers about 4 square kilometers (1.5 square miles). The Shanghai Disneyland (上海迪士尼乐园) park cost about $5.5 billion, or 39 billion Chinese Yuan. This park's layout is similar to other Disney Magic Kingdom parks, except this one lacks a steam railroad and a tall earth berm that surrounds other the similar Disney parks. One unique feature is that the park's central hub is a Chinese gardens with the 12 animals of Chinese zodiac represented by Disney characters. Another feature that this Disney park has that isn't anywhere else is the amazing Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure ride. It is totally unlike the other Disney Pirates of the Caribbean rides, and it is one of the best dark rides I have ever experienced!

Since its opening, the park has continued to expand. The Toy Story Land opened in 2018, and the City of Zootopia land opened in 2023. A roller coaster based on Spiderman is expected to opened in 2027.
