Six Flags Over Georgia
Austell, Georgia
Located near Atlanta, this park opened on June 7, 1967 with
two roller coasters. Two years later, the land's ownership was passed
to a limited partnership, Six Flags Over Georgia, LP, while Six Flags Theme
Parks (SFTP) became responsible for the park's operation. After being
controlled by several corporate entities, SFTP was finally purchased by
Time-Warner, Inc. Feeling that their interests were being ignored by
SFTP, the LP sued Time-Warner in 1997 for neglecting the property. The
LP was awarded the staggering sum of $197 million in compensatory damages
and $257 million in punitive damages.
Four coasters have been removed from the park:
-
Mini-Mine Train (briefly called the Yahoola Hooler) ran here
from the opening of the park in 1967 until 1993. It was built by Arrow.
-
Viper, a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop, began in 1978 as Tidal Wave
at Six Flags Great America. In 1995, it moved to Georgia. It
was torn down in September 2001. Since 2003, it has operated in Six Flags
Kentucky Kingdom as Greezed Lightnin'.
-
Z-Force (pictures below) opened in 1985 at Six Flags Great America.
It was in Georgia from only 1988 to 1990. It ran at Six Flags
Magic Mountain from 1992 until 2003. After sitting dormant for five
years, it was demolished in late 2007.
