Route 66 Carousel Park
Joplin, Missouri
U.S. Route 66 got its start in 1926 as a highway connecting Chicago, Illinois and
Santa Monica, California. And while the growth of the Interstate Highway System caused Route 66 to be removed from the national list
of highways back in 1985, nostalgia for the Mother Road has sparked a revival of tourist attractions, gas stations, and motels
along many stretches of the former Route 66. Joplin sits in Southwest Missouri, and the Route 66 Carousel Park is very close
to Interstate 44, the road that replaced Route 66. The Route 66 Carousel Park has a go-kart track, miniature golf, a handful of small
amusement park rides, and one carousel.
