Pacific Park
Santa Monica, California

This two-acre park has a dozen rides.  It sits on the famous Santa Monica Municipal Pier, which opened in September 1909.  Charles Looff, who is best known for building the first carousel at Coney Island in New York, built Looff's Pier on the south side of the Municipal Pier in 1916.  Looff's Pier, also known as Newcomb Pier, had a succession of owners over the years, but both it and Santa Monica Municipal Pier deteriorated until the 1970s when the Santa Monica City Council ordered the demolition of both Piers.  Residents then formed the "Save Our Pier Forever" campaign which fought for the restoration of the Piers.  In the late 1980s, the Piers were combined and refurbished, and a variety of retail and dining establishments were added.  Pacific Park opened in 1996.

Two coasters previously operated on the Pier.
