Gillian's Wonderland Pier
Ocean City, New Jersey
David Gillian opened the Fun Deck in 1930 at
the corner of Plymouth Place and the Ocean City Boardwalk. His sons Bob and Roy took
over the business in 1957. Roy left in 1965 when he started Wonderland
Pier on the site where Stainton's Playland burned down ten years earlier.
Roy later spent 18 years in politics and was elected Ocean City Mayor in 1985.
In 1994, he became President of the International Association of Amusement Park
Attractions (IAAPA). David Gillian
passed away in 1993 at the age of 102. The third generation of Gillians
operate Wonderland Pier and Gillian's Island Water Park & Adventure Golf.
