Funtown Pier
Seaside Park, New Jersey

Frank Freeman purchased a pavilion on the corner of Boardwalk and Porter Avenue in 1916.  He built some rides there in the 1920s and 1930s and was soon calling the park Freeman's Amusements.  The facility was destroyed by fire on June 9, 1955.  Stanley Tunney helped rebuild the park and it reopened as Funtown USA in 1957.  Its boardwalk is located right on the Atlantic Ocean.

The park was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy on October 29th, 2012.  The park was being rebuilt with the goal of reopening in 2014, but on September 12, 2013, a huge fire destroyed a large section of the New Jersey Boardwalk, and the Funtown Pier was destroyed.  The park has been closed since 2012.
