Belmont Park
San Diego, California
The 33-acre Mission Beach Amusement Center opened on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in 1925. The park was the idea of sugar magnate John D. Sprekels. A few weeks after the park opened, its major attraction, the Giant Dipper roller coaster, opened after less than two months of construction. In later years, the park was renamed Belmont Park while the coaster underwent several name changes.
