Knott's Berry Farm

Buena Park, California

In 1928, Cordelia Knott's tea room and berry market, named Knott's Berry Place, opened on their family farm. In 1932, Walter Knott created a new berry, a cross between the red raspberry, blackberry and loganberry. He named it the boysenberry, in honor of his friend Rudolph Boysen. Two years later, Mrs. Knott began serving her famous chicken dinners. Since then, more than 200 million guests have visited the park. The park was acquired by Cedar Fair, L.P. in 1997. Knott's Soak City, USA, a 13-acre water park adjacent to the amusement park, opened in June of 2000.

Three coasters have been built since my last visit to Knott's Berry Farm: Coast Rider opened in 2013 and is a
Mack Wild Mouse. Hang Time opened in 2018 and is an Infinity Coaster from Gerstlauer that has a vertical lift, a 96° drop, and five inversions. Snoopy's Tenderpaw Twister Coaster opened in 2024 and is a Zamperla Family Coaster.

Five coasters have left Knott's:

  • Boomerang (1990-2017) was a Vekoma Boomerang shuttle coaster with three inversions. Since 2021, it has been operating as Boomerang Hyper Coaster at Trans Studio Cibubur in East Jakarta, Indonesia. (See pictures below for details.)
  • Corkscrew (1975-1989) was an Arrow steel coaster named for its two corkscrew loops. It was the first modern coaster with an inversion. Since 1990, it has been running as Corkscrew at Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho.
  • Timberline Twister (1983-2023) was a kiddie coaster built by Bradley and Kaye. It was demolished in 2023. (See pictures below for details.)
  • Wacky Soap Box Racers (1976-1996) was a steeplechase ride built by Arrow. This unique ride had four parallel tracks, each with a height of about 27 feet. The coaster had normal coaster cars for several years, but it also had motorcycles on the tracks for a while!
  • Windjammer Surf Racers (1997-2000) was a twin-track steel coaster built by TOGO. Each track had one vertical loop. The coaster, which was called Jammer for about one year, was torn down in 2001 due to a variety of problems. (See pictures below for details.)
