Ferrari Land's history can be traced back to the opening of Port Aventura in 1995. That park expanded in 2002 with the addition of a water park and hotels. Port Aventura had a variety of owners until 2013 when the UK-based InvestIndustrial private equity firm and the US-based Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. investment company acquired ownership of the park. Three years later, the park was re-branded to the PortAventura World Parks & Resort. The resort expanded with the 2017 opening of Ferrari Land. The park's theme is based on the Italian sport car brand. With a size of 60,000 square meters (15 square acres), Ferrari Land is rather small, but many ticket packages from the adjacent PortAventura include at least a partial-day's admission to Ferrari Land.
