Hanayashiki / 浅草花やしき
Asakusa, Taito, Tokyo, Japan
Sitting just a few blocks away from the Sensō-ji Temple, Hanayashiki claims to be Japan's oldest amusement park. It traces its origins a flower park that opened at the end of the Edo period way back in 1853. With a footprint of just 5,800 square meters (6,900 square yards), Hanayashiki is an extremely small but densely packed park situated right in the heart of Tokyo. The name "Hanayashiki" actually means "public flower garden," and there are still pretty flowers within this tiny amusement park. Hanayashiki is home to Japan's oldest operating roller coaster. The park is now controlled by the Real Entertainment Unit of Bandai Namco Group.
