Sommerland Sjælland

Nykøbing, Sjælland, Denmark

Sommerland Sjælland its on Sjælland, which is often translated to Zealand, Denmark's largest island. Filip Dyvekær purchased this property in the late 1960s. It was originally a farm, but later gravel was excavated from gravel pits on the property. These areas are now full of water and are the lakes found in the park at the present time. Filip decided to opened a small family park in the 1980s, and Sommerland Sjælland opened in the summer of 1985. Kåre Dyvekær, Filip's son, took over the park in 2007. Sommerland Sjælland has expanded with an outdoor water park, a variety of small rides, and lots of animals and beautiful flowers. The adorable small park, which is primarliy aimed at children, has some unique features. For example, Basutka is a cannon where kids and parents can launch their pacifiers through the air! It is a cute place for a farewell ceremony to honor a kid's transition from being a baby into the next steps of life. When I visited, the area had many used pacifiers scattered on the ground, and they were fenced off create a sense of a final goodbye to this phase of childhood. Also, the park's mobile phone app had a tremendous amount of interactive features. A multitude of lights, moving effects, and water canons can all be activated from a cellphone!
