In 1999, the Belgian production company Studio 100 expanded its portfolio of
television stations and animation studios by purchasing the Meli Park amusement park. Founded in 1935, the park was
renamed Plopsaland in 2000. In 2005, the company built Belgium's first indoor theme park about a 2-hour drive to the east of
the Plopsaland park. Designed for children between 2 and 10 years old, Plopsa Indoor Hasselt has indoor rides, outdoor rides, and
lots of shows and play areas. Since this park's opening, Studio 100 acquired several more amusement parks and
water parks in Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Poland.
The complex that houses Plopsa Indoor Hasselt is also home to some clubs, a trampoline park, the
Trixxo Theater, and the Trixxo Arena, the event space formerly known as the Ethias Arena.
