The Western Playland amusement park opened in El Paso, Texas in 1960. Owned by
Pat Thompson, it was on a small plot of land in Ascarate Park. Parts of the park were less than a half of a mile from the Rio Grande and the Mexican boarder.
After Thompson had conflicts with the county of El Paso, he moved the park in 2006 to a parcel of land donated by the Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. The new
location is only about a 20-minute drive to the west of its former spot. Thompson sold the park to the Traders Village company in 2022.
One coaster has left the park: Spinning Coaster operated from 2014 to 2020. See pictures below for details.
