Tivoli Friheden

Århus, Jylland, Denmark

Located in Eastern Denmark, Tivoli Friheden is a small park nestled in the Havreballe Skov (Havreballe Forrest) right next to the Aarhus Bugt (Aarhus Bay) portion of the North Sea. The park started around 1903 when a local forester served food and drinks to visitors to the woods. Hans Rising soon took over and expanded the operation to a large restaurant and theater. Amusement rides came to the area in 1958. A variety of owners have overseen the park, but Tivoli Friheden A/S has owned the area since 2000. One coaster has been built since my last visit: Vindfald, a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter with a vertical lift and two inversions, opened in May 2024.

Three coasters have left the Tivoli Friheden amusement park:

  • Cobra was a Satori Rides inverted coaster that operated from 2008 until an accident occurred in 2022. See pictures below for details.
  • Cyklon 73 was a Zyklon or Galaxi model that was here from 1973 until 1986.
  • Orkanens Øje was a looping Zyklon steel coaster built by Pinfari. It operated here from 1986 to 2018. It then became Roller Coaster at the Baghdad Island amusement park in Iraq. See pictures below for details.
