Great LEGO Race
As you may have known by reading other portions of this website, I am not a fan of the recent fad of adding Virtual Reality goggles to roller coasters. First of all, it takes a long time for riders to don and doff the goggles, which reduces the coaster's hourly capacity. Secondly, riding a coaster with a phone strapped to your head can be very uncomfortable. Thirdly, the computer graphics are never perfectly synchronized with the coaster's movements which often causes or accentuates motion sickness in riders. Differences in temperature, wind, and riders' weights affect the speed of the ride, so at the end of the track, the movements in the video may be several seconds ahead of or behind the real movements of the coaster. And as we are currently suffering through a worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the thought of wearing a pair of VR goggles that were just worn by another rider is totally unappealing. I just don't want to put my eyes and nose in a headset that another rider, probably one who was yelling and screaming, was wearing only a few seconds ago. And lastly, I like looking around when on a coaster. I think it is great to be able to see the ride, the surroundings, and the other riders.
