Space Mountain
For its first two decades, the inside of Space Mountain was almost completely dark. There were some stars projected on the inside
of the dome, and a projection of an asteroid would occasionally fly by. The projection technology in the 1970s and 1980s was pretty lame
by today's standards, and the image of the asteroid or meteor looked like a flying chocolate chip cookie to me!
The ride seen in this image is actually a brand new coaster that opened in 2005, replacing the original 1977 ride built by WED. As part of Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, the coaster and special effects inside Space Mountain were completely redone.
