Matterhorn Bobsleds
When the Disney Skyway skyride opened in June 1956, one of its steel towers sat on Holiday Hill. When the Matterhorn was
constructed a few years later, it had holes in it which allowed the skyride to pass right through the hill. The mountain also hid
the skyride's tower. There are also multiple
holes through the mountain for the roller coasters housed within. When asked why there were holes in his Matterhorn mountain, Walt Disney said,
"Because it is a Swiss Mountain!" I guess if Swiss cheese has holes, a Swiss mountain does also!
The look of this mountain has changed throughout the years. The original design had numerous plant boxes all over the mountain, and trees were going to be planted among the rocks, but most of the real plants and trees were removed from the design. Several waterfalls are on the mountain, and they haven't changed much over the years. The exterior of the mountain had a lot of work done on it in 2012, and the fake snow is now much brighter and covers more of the mountain than it originally did.
