Dragon
For its first decade, Dragon operated with seven cars in its train. Around
the year 2000, one car was removed. This six-car configuration is seen in this picture. In
its last year or two of operation, yet another car was
removed. The five-car train had the capacity to hold 20 riders.
The park hasn't said why the train was shortened, but I can make an educated guess. Because the coaster's manufacturer went out of business, I assume that it was hard to get spare parts for the train. As wheels and restraints started wearing out, the removed cars were probably cannibalized for parts. Each removed car would have provided four sets of wheels, four seats, and four shoulder restraints.
