Cheetah Hunt

Linear Synchronous Motors (LSM) are used three times on this ride.  The first LSMs are located at the exit of the loading platform.  They move the train from almost a standstill to about 30 miles per hour.  After a brief turn, the trains encounter the set of LSMs seen here.  The flow of electricity into these white fins is carefully controlled which produces a moving magnetic field along the centerline of this track.  This field interacts with rare-earth magnets mounted below each car.  The second set of LSMs boosts the train's speed to about 60 miles per hour so it has enough energy to climb up to the Windcatcher Tower partially seen in the distance.  Towards the end of the ride, a third and final set of LSMs gives the train a little boost back up to about 40 miles an hour in order to ensure it has enough speed to reach the station.
