Each seat has a metal lapbar that rests on riders' laps.  From the lapbar, two flexible seatbelt-like restraints extend to the top of each seat.  The the top of the fabric belts are partially covered by a plastic sleeve.  The flexible over-the-shoulder restraints were rather comfortable.   They were nowhere near my ears, so I didn't have to worry about banging my ears or head into the restraints.
