Polar Coaster is one of just seven roller coasters designed and built by O.D. Hopkins Associates Inc. Mr. Hopkins was born in 1926 and started the Hopkins Engineering company in 1962. The organization originally built ski lifts and amusement park Sky Rides. The company changed its name to O.D. Hopkins Associates Inc. in 1971. Hopkins expanded into making log flume rides in the 1980s and made a few coasters from 1985 to 1996. Hopkins filed for bankruptcy protection in 2001 and spun off their aerial sky ride division to SkyTrans Manufacturing. The company emerged from bankruptcy as Hopkins Rides, LLC and now makes a variety of water rides such as log flumes, River Raft rides, Shoot the Chute rides, and water transportation systems.
