GateKeeper

From 1985 to 2012, this location was occupied by Avalanche Run, the ride which was converted into Disaster Transport in 1990.  That coaster was closed in July 2012 and demolished to make room for GateKeeper.  Until September 2012, the Space Spiral observation tower was situated on the land seen on the right side of this picture.  That ride was a "Gyro Tower" built by the Von Roll company in 1965.  It had a two-level cabin that ascended 285 feet up the 330-foot-tall tower as the cabin slowly rotated to give riders a 360° view of the Cedar Point peninsula.  The Space Spiral ride was toppled on September 12, 2012 when about a dozen pounds of explosives were detonated on the tower's base in order to drop it on the Cedar Point beach.
