Cedar Point - Lake Erie View
Here is a view of Cedar Point as seen from the shoreline adjacent to the historic Marblehead Lighthouse. The famous landmark, which was originally built in 1821, sits at the tip of the Marblehead peninsula, just about two miles north of Cedar Point. The lighthouse, which has been featured on many Ohio license plates during the past couple of decades, is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes. The tower originally was 50 feet tall, but 15 feet was added to its height in 1897. Its green flashing light is visible to boats on Lake Erie up to 11 nautical miles away from the lighthouse.
The lighthouse and surrounding park are open to the public during the summer. If you ever want to drive between Cedar Point and the Marblehead Light, allow yourself about 45 minutes to make the drive. If you have a boat, it is a short two mile journey, but taking a car necessitates a long drive all the way around Sandusky Bay.
