Because the splash is directed up and away from the boat by a series of tubes and nozzles installed under the sides of each boat, I hardly got any water on me when I rode Vliegende Hollander.
Surprisingly, from the splashdown all the way back to the loading platform, the boats are still firmly attached to the track. In this picture, both boats are still riding on rails, but the track is hidden below the water's surface. A motorized chain, not unlike the chain on the lift hill, is hidden underwater and is used to pull the boats back to the loading platform.
