Once in the station, a second system is used to stop the cars. Automotive tires powered by electric motors are mounted in between the track rails. The tire makes contact with a skid strip on the car's underside. These tires not only stop the cars, they also can propel the cars forward to sequence them through the unloading and loading locations. The tire rubbing on the bottom of the car does not have the same stopping power as the magnetic or friction pinch brakes that grab on both sides of the metal fins.
This picture doesn't show the drive/brake system, but it does show some of the strange racing decorations in the station.
