Adventureland
Farmingdale, New York
Located about an hour's drive east of Manhattan, this
Long Island park opened in 1962. The park was originally called 110 Adventureland, a reference to its location on Route 110. Alvin Cohen was
the park's owner in much of the 1970s until it was purchased by Willy Miller.
Adventureland grew in the 1980s, and it was sold to Tony Gentile in 1987.
The park presently has nearly two dozen rides, most of which are designed for
children. The 2009 film Adventureland was loosely based on director
Greg Mottola's experience working at this park. Four coasters have left the park:
- Dragon Wagon (1996-2000) was a Flying Dragon model from Wisdom
Rides. It was relocated to Blackbeard's Cave in New Jersey where it is
known as Dragon.
- Galaxy (1973-1990) was a Galaxi model from S.D.C. It was
sold to a company in Brazil, but its whereabouts are unknown.
- Roller Coaster (1970s) was a Little Dipper model from the Allan
Hershell Company.
- Toboggan (unknown-1979) was a Toboggan model from Chance Rides.
It was last seen operating in a traveling fair in Brazil.
