Adventureland
Farmingdale, New York

     Located about an hour's drive east of Manhattan, this Long Island park opened in 1962.  The park was originally called 110 Adventureland, a reference to its location on Route 110.  Alvin Cohen was the park's owner in much of the 1970s until it was purchased by Willy Miller.  Adventureland grew in the 1980s, and it was sold to Tony Gentile in 1987.  The park presently has nearly two dozen rides, most of which are designed for children.  The 2009 film Adventureland was loosely based on director Greg Mottola's experience working at this park.
