In 2012, Superman was closed from February to July in order to add a freefall ride to the coaster's structure. Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom consists of two drop towers that are mounted laterally to the roller coaster's tower. Built by Intamin, each tower has an 8-passenger car that drops 400 feet. For two years, it held the title of the world's tallest drop tower. The ride is now the world's second tallest drop tower because Intamin added a 415-foot drop tower, Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, to Kindga Ka's steel support structure in 2014.
