Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Big Chief's Carts and Coasters was originally created by Jim Laskaris who ran the park until his death in 2003. The park was a simple go-kart track in the 1970s, but it changed its name to Big Chief Karts & Coasters in 1995. The apostraphy and the spelling of "Karts" changed in the name over the years. The Mt. Olympus park was formed in 2004 as part of a deal that merged Big Chief's, the Treasure Island Waterpark Resort, and the Family Land Waterpark into a 150-acre Greek-themed park. It presently has three dozen waterslides, two floating rivers, a wave pool, and several amazing go-cart tracks that go underground, underwater, and even through buildings! The Parthenon, an indoor section with some smaller rides, opened in 2006 and an indoor water park opened in 2022. The park is now owned and operated by Jim Laskaris' son, daughter, and their spouses. The park has expanded to now cover over 200 acres.

Two coasters have left the Mt. Olympus amusement park:

  • Dive to Atlantis was a E&F Miler Coaster Company water coaster that operated here from 2004 to 2007. See pictures below for details.
  • Opa was a indoor Zamperla spinning Wister Coaster coaster that operated here from 2006 to 2014. It was removed after an accident where a lapbar failed and a rider was injured. An investigation into the accident cited the park with four code violations and claimed that the park did not follow a 2010 Service Bulletin from Zamperla. Officials also claim that the operators had not inspected and adequately maintained the restraint mechanisms. The was bought by another company and now travels under the name of Mighty Mouse.
